Methodology World monitor
Zones, heat and anomalies
In plain words: a zone is a region of the news world. Heat says how unusually busy it is right now.
How a zone's reading is formed and what raises a flag.
The world is divided into eight media zones. Each zone has a heat reading from 0 to 100 that combines the volume of reporting, how fast it is rising and how far it departs from the zone's own 30-day baseline.
Anomalies
An anomaly is flagged when a reading sits two or more spreads from its baseline. A flag is an invitation to look. It is confirmed only when independent physical telemetry agrees with the reporting.
Alert tiers
- Tier 1, Elevated.
- Tier 2, Critical.
- Tier 3, Systemic: raised when two or more Tier 2 alerts fall within 60 minutes.
The rule that raised a tier is always printed beside it.
